Nebraska Wesleyan will be hosting The Purple Run, Walk & Roll to help raise awareness of domestic violence. The event will be held on October 30th, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
According to Said Mendez, the event’s main contact for information, everyone is welcome. There will be areas designated for runners, walkers, and people in wheelchairs. The course is one mile around campus, starting at Acklie Hall of Science. Purple powder will be thrown at the participants as they make their way around as well. There are posters in every residence hall with a QR code to sign up for the event and get more details. Mendez’s contact information is also on the posters, as pictured below.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), which this event is being held to honor. The Purple Run, Walk & Roll is not only to raise awareness, however, but also to support domestic violence victims. It will help them know they are not alone, and that the community at Wesleyan will rally around them. Purple is the color used to symbolize DVAM, and has been for decades. Lavender is the traditional shade used, but all forms of purple are welcomed.
Make sure to sign up and help show your support!
